Foundation Studies in Anthroposophy

This is an ideal introduction to anthroposophy. It is especially helpful for parents who have or wish to have their children in a Waldorf program or for those who are planning to become teachers in Waldorf-inspired schools.

Professional Development: Early Childhood & Grades

We offer training for all those interested in becoming a grades or early childhood teacher in a Waldorf-inspired setting. Our programs consist of ongoing anthroposophic study coupled with study of curriculum throughout EC and all of the grades. Through lectures, engaging class discussions, artistic work, self-reflection, and written and visual curriculum work, students will develop a deep understanding of the principles behind Waldorf-inspired education.

Why choose

the Micha-el Institute?

The Micha-el Insitute supports Rudolf Steiner's indications by offering a comprehensive Micha-elic curriculum that not only provides knowledge of child development, anthroposophy, and grade school subjects, but also helps students develop self-knowledge. Steiner said what is fundamentally important is who a teacher is, not what a teacher knows. The Micha-el Institute helps its students develop the self-knowledge to find their own individuality and deepen their understanding of humanity. This self-knowledge enlivens in us an instinctive understanding of the children we encounter and engage with what Rudolf Steiner called ‘pedagogical intuition,’ which is invaluable for all Waldorf-inspired school teachers.

Where you choose to do your studies in Waldorf-inspired professional development is largely a question of destiny or karma. Our founder, John Miles, was personally trained for ten years by Juliette and Vera Compton-Burnett, whom Steiner gave the task of bringing eurythmy and speech formation to the English-speaking world. In addition to developing the institute’s Micha-elic curriculum, John has over 30 books in print for teachers and schools, covering anthroposophy, pedagogy, geometry, music, poems, plays, and more.

“When you appeal to their feeling and their will you guide the children’s thoughts and feelings to an understanding of how they themselves are only fully human when they use their hands for working in the world. Through this man is the most perfect being... Goethe says … man stands at the summit of nature and there feels himself to be a whole world of nature.”
